The Cord Blood Transplantation Study study was an National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute-sponsored, phase 2, multicenter study designed to establish public cord blood banks using common standards and operating procedures and to determine through a multicenter clinical trial if banked unrelated donor umbilical cord blood could serve as an adequate hematopoietic stem cell source for adults and children with malignancies, immune deficiencies, inherited marrow failure, or inborn errors of metabolism.
